TAN1 is required for formation of ac4C12 in leucine and serine tRNAs. TAN1 interacts in vivo in yeast cells with RRA1 (KRE33), and, on this basis, was suggested to work as a tRNA adaptor to Kre33, which is a demonstrated catalytically active acetyltransferase. The human homolog of TAN1 is THUMPD1. THUMPD1 interacts in vivo with NAT10, the human homolog of KRE33.
